Pakistan-Based TransGroup Gets Global Media Rights Role for India-Afghanistan T20I Series
The upcoming India-Afghanistan T20I series has drawn attention even before the first ball is bowled, with a Pakistan-based company set to play a key role in the tournament’s global media and commercial arrangements. The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has appointed TransGroup as the Global Media Rights Syndication Partner for the three-match series.
The development is notable because TransGroup is based in Pakistan and has previously been associated with major cricket properties, including the Pakistan Super League and the Pakistan Cricket Board. Its involvement in a series featuring India has therefore attracted considerable interest in the cricketing world.
TransGroup’s Role in the Series
The ACB’s announcement makes clear that TransGroup’s responsibility is related to global media rights syndication. In other words, the company will be involved in commercialising and distributing the media rights of the series across relevant markets.
The media structure for the series has been divided among different partners rather than being handled by a single broadcaster. TransGroup has been named the Global Media Rights Syndication Partner, while TPT360 has been appointed as the Media Production Partner. FanCode has separately been named the official streaming partner for viewers in India.
This distinction is important because the appointment of TransGroup does not mean that Indian viewers will necessarily watch the matches through a Pakistan-based television network. The global syndication role and the domestic broadcast or streaming arrangements are separate parts of the overall media package.
India Series to Be Played in Delhi
India and Afghanistan are scheduled to meet in a three-match T20I series in September. All three matches will be played at the Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium in New Delhi.
The opening T20I is scheduled for September 13, followed by the second match on September 15 and the final game on September 17. The series is being hosted by the Afghanistan Cricket Board, although the matches themselves will take place in India.
The arrangement is significant for Afghanistan because the country has frequently used overseas venues for its home fixtures. India and the United Arab Emirates have served as important bases for Afghanistan’s international matches, particularly because of the limited availability of international cricket facilities at home.
The September series is also being regarded as an important milestone in Afghanistan’s bilateral cricket relationship with India. It is the first bilateral event between the two sides to be hosted by the ACB, even though the matches will be staged on Indian soil.
Multiple Partners Handling the Broadcast Setup
The media arrangements highlight how international cricket series can involve several companies performing different commercial and technical functions.
While TransGroup will handle global media rights syndication, TPT360 has been brought in for media production. FanCode has been identified as the official streaming platform for the Indian market. Separately, reports have indicated that Sony Sports Network has acquired the linear television broadcast rights for the series in India.
This means Indian cricket fans are expected to have separate television and digital options for following the matches. The division of responsibilities also shows that the Pakistan-based company's involvement is primarily connected to the wider commercial and syndication structure rather than directly determining where Indian audiences watch the games.
The ACB has also secured commercial partnerships for the series. Telecommunications company e& has been named the title sponsor, while Super Cola Beverages Manufacturing Company has received the “Powered By” sponsorship rights. The event is therefore officially branded as the “E& Afghanistan vs India T20I Series 2026, powered by Super Cola.”
India and Afghanistan Renew Their T20I Rivalry
The media-rights development comes ahead of another competitive chapter between the two teams. India and Afghanistan have developed a growing cricket rivalry, particularly in the T20 format, where Afghanistan’s aggressive style and strong spin attack have made them a challenging opponent.
The teams last played a bilateral T20I series in January 2024. India won that series 3-0, although the final match in Bengaluru became one of the most dramatic games between the sides. Both teams scored 212 runs before India eventually secured victory in a second Super Over.
The two teams also met during Afghanistan’s multi-format visit to India earlier in 2026. That tour included a Test and three ODIs, with India winning the ODI series 3-0. The upcoming T20I matches will give both teams another opportunity to test themselves against each other in the shortest international format.
Why the Rights Deal Has Drawn Attention
The appointment of a Pakistan-based company to a major media-rights role for an India-Afghanistan series is unusual enough to generate widespread discussion. TransGroup’s links with Pakistani cricket add another layer of interest to the announcement.
However, the arrangement is primarily a commercial rights decision. The ACB has divided the media responsibilities among international syndication, production, television and digital streaming partners, allowing different companies to participate in separate parts of the broadcast ecosystem.
For cricket fans, the immediate focus will ultimately shift from the business side to the action on the field. With three T20Is scheduled in Delhi, India and Afghanistan will have another opportunity to produce the kind of close contests that have increasingly characterised their meetings.
As the September series approaches, the involvement of TransGroup is likely to remain a talking point off the field, while the performances of the two teams will determine the main story once the competition begins.
