Akshaya Tritiya, which is also known as ‘Akti’ or ‘Akha Teej’, is an annual festival that signifies the arrival of spring in Hindus and Jains. The festival is quite common in north India and falls on the third Tithi of Shukla Paksha of the Vaisakha month as per the Hindu calendar. In Gregorian calendar, the festival is generally celebrated in the month of May and April. This year, we will celebrate Akshaya Tritiya on April 26.
On Akshaya Tritiya, purchasing Gold is considered an auspicious thing and thus many people can be seen buying the precious metal on this day. As per some Hindu legends, Akshaya Tritiya is believed to be the birthday of Parasurama who was the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Some legends also say that river Ganges descended to earth on Akshaya Tritiya.
