Maruti Suzuki Shares Slip After Q1 Margins Disappoint, Analysts Continue to Back Long-Term Outlook

Maruti Suzuki India shares came under selling pressure on Monday after the automaker reported weaker-than-expected operating margins for the first quarter of FY27, despite posting strong revenue growth. Investors reacted to the profitability concerns, pushing the stock down around 2% in early trading.

For the quarter ended June 30, the country's largest passenger vehicle manufacturer reported a standalone net profit of ₹3,352 crore, a decline of nearly 11% from the same period last year. Revenue, however, climbed sharply to ₹52,456 crore as vehicle sales remained robust. Rising raw material expenses, particularly steel and other commodity costs, offset the benefits of higher sales volumes and recent price increases, resulting in pressure on earnings.

Market analysts noted that the weaker margins were the primary reason behind the negative share price reaction. During the quarter, the company also faced additional cost pressures linked to changes in supplier pricing arrangements and elevated commodity prices, which weighed on operating performance.

Despite the short-term disappointment, several leading brokerages maintained a positive stance on the stock. HSBC reiterated its Buy recommendation with a target price of ₹16,000, arguing that margin pressure is likely to ease in the coming quarters as commodity prices stabilize. The brokerage also expects healthy demand and new product launches to support future growth.

Kotak Institutional Equities also retained a constructive view, keeping its Add rating and a target price of ₹14,600. The brokerage believes temporary factors affected first-quarter profitability and expects improving consumer sentiment, a healthy order book, and sustained demand to support both sales volumes and market share in the months ahead.

Management has also indicated that operating margins should gradually recover as commodity costs moderate and supplier pricing normalizes. At the same time, the company continues to project around 10% sales growth for the current financial year, although production capacity remains a key factor influencing future deliveries.

While the latest quarterly results highlight the challenges posed by rising input costs, many analysts believe the underlying demand environment for Maruti Suzuki remains resilient. As a result, the recent decline in the share price is being viewed by several brokerages as a near-term reaction to earnings pressure rather than a sign of weakening long-term fundamentals.
