RETINOL FOR SKIN!!

What is retinol?
Retinol is a synthetic derivative of vitamin A, the group of fat-soluble vitamins common in eggs, carrots, sweet potato.

Retinol is so important because it can really effectively improve your skin’s texture and pigmentation, while also having incredible anti-aging effects. Retinol increases collagen production, allowing for a smoother, more even complexion. Because it evens your pigmentation, retinol is amazing for clearing up acne scars or any uneven skin tone. It also majorly brightens your skin AND can clog pores, preventing further breakouts.

Benefits of retinol!!
Prevents wrinkles and fine lines and makes the skin smooth. Brighten dull skin by exfoliating at a cellular level. Regulate oily skin and minimize breakouts. Fade dark age spots, sun spots and hyperpigmentation and even out complexion over time. Finally, retinol has also been proven to balance your skin hydration levels. Mild exfoliating effects help to remove dead skin cells that may lead to moisture loss. This may even benefit oily skin by controlling excess production of sebum in your pores.

Side effects of retinol!!
Since retinol is such a powerful ingredient, it can cause the skin to redden or peel if it's incorporated into a skin care regimen too quickly or used too often. Flakiness, dryness and even some breakouts can occur when retinol is first added to a routine. Typically, it just takes a little time for the skin to adjust. Begin slowly by adding it into a nightly routine one to two times per week for the first week and increasing it gradually from there, depending on how the skin reacts.

How to use retinol products :
As effective as retinol is when it comes to reversing damage, how you apply it can affect the results you see. Because this product can cause skin to dry out and sometimes turn red, it’s best to talk to your dermatologist before starting a retinol regimen. Most dermatologists advise to start with products that contain a low concentration (0.25% or 0.3%) of the ingredient first and see how your skin reacts before moving to higher concentrations.
Start your skin care regime with washing your face and use a retinol base serum or cream. Always start with a pea - size amount.

How frequently should retinol be used?
Start by applying a pea-sized amount of retinol to your entire face every other night. Remember that it takes several weeks for your skin to adjust to the product, so it’s best to use it sparingly at first and gradually increase your use as time goes on. If your skin becomes dry or irritated, it is better holding back to every third night or even once per week.

Is retinol suitable for all skin types?
Any skin type can use retinol, but sensitive skin types should be extra cautious as it may be harder for them to adjust to the potent ingredient. Retinol is not recommend for people who have skin that’s been over-exfoliated or skin that’s sun-damaged. It should also be noted that pregnant women should not use retinol.

Best retinol products :

The Ordinary Granactive Retinoid 2% in Squalane :
This water-free solution contains a 2% concentration of an advanced retinoid active complex called Granactive Retinoid that has been shown to offer better results against multiple signs of aging than retinol without any of the irritation and drawbacks common with retinol. Granactive Retinoid, an active technology from Grant Industries, is a solubilized system of Hydroxypinacolone Retinoate, a highly-advanced form of retinoid which is, in fact, a non-prescription ester of all-trans direct retinoic acid that offers a multi-fold better effect against signs of aging than retinol, retinyl palmitate and nearly all other forms of non-prescription retinoid. Apply a small amount to face in the PM as part of your skincare regimen, after water serums but before heavier treatments. Do not use with other retinoid treatments. Avoid unprotected solar exposure. Store in a cool, dry place.
