Balakrishna Returns to Dada Shoot: Why the Next Few Weeks Are Crucial for the December Release
Nandamuri Balakrishna is back on the sets of Dada after a break caused by an injury sustained during the film’s production. The actor’s return comes at an important stage for the movie, with the team working toward its announced December 24, 2026 theatrical release.
Directed by Gopichand Malineni, Dada has already generated attention because it brings the director and Balakrishna together again after their successful collaboration on Veera Simha Reddy. The latest shooting update indicates that the production has entered a crucial finishing phase.
Balakrishna Resumes Shooting After Injury
Balakrishna had been away from the Dada sets for nearly two months while recovering from his injury. According to the latest reports, he has now resumed work and is scheduled to participate in a fresh shooting schedule in Mysore.
The Mysore schedule is planned for approximately 15 days. Once that portion is completed, the team is expected to require another 20 days of Balakrishna’s participation to finish the remaining portions involving him.
That puts the reported requirement at roughly 35 shooting days for the actor’s pending work. A song featuring Balakrishna, with music by S. Thaman, is also among the portions still to be completed.
The schedule is therefore significant not simply because Balakrishna has returned, but because his availability is now central to the production timetable.
Gopichand Malineni Has Already Used the Waiting Period
One of the more important aspects of the update is that the production did not remain completely idle during Balakrishna’s absence.
The makers have reportedly completed scenes and portions that did not require the lead actor. Those portions have already moved into post-production, allowing the team to make use of the time while Balakrishna was recovering.
This is an important production strategy for a large commercial film. When a lead actor becomes temporarily unavailable, completing other actors’ scenes, technical work and post-production simultaneously can reduce the amount of work left after the actor returns.
Reports also indicate that some filming is expected to take place at Kakinada Port. The combination of the Mysore schedule and the remaining production work in Andhra Pradesh will be important in determining whether the film can remain on its current release track.
Why December 24 Is So Important
The makers are currently targeting December 24, placing Dada in the Christmas holiday period.
For a mainstream Telugu film led by a major star, a holiday release can provide an opportunity to attract audiences over several consecutive days. However, that advantage depends heavily on the film being ready on schedule.
The injury-related production interruption has made the remaining timetable tighter. The team now has to complete Balakrishna’s scenes, finish the remaining production requirements and complete post-production before the targeted release.
Another factor reportedly being considered is the upcoming OTT calendar. A delay could potentially push the movie toward the Sankranthi 2027 season, creating a different competitive situation.
That makes December 24 more than just a date on the release calendar. It represents a window the makers are currently trying to protect.
A Gangster Drama With a Strong Mass Setup
Dada is being presented as a mafia-oriented action drama, with Balakrishna reportedly playing a gangster. The project has been designed around the actor’s established mass-screen image, while the promotional material has already introduced audiences to his character’s larger-than-life presentation.
The film also has Manoj Manchu in an important opposing role. His presence opposite Balakrishna gives the project another point of interest, particularly because audiences will be watching how the two actors are positioned within the story.
The combination of Balakrishna, Gopichand Malineni and Thaman is another major component of the film’s appeal. Malineni and Balakrishna previously worked together on Veera Simha Reddy, while Thaman is responsible for the music for Dada.
What the Teaser Has Already Established
The promotional campaign has already begun building interest around Balakrishna’s character.
The released glimpse presents him in a powerful gangster-style appearance and emphasizes the film’s action-oriented tone. The promotional material also introduced the film’s title and character presentation, giving viewers an early indication of the kind of commercial entertainer the makers are attempting to create.
The next major promotional milestone will be the trailer. The makers are reportedly expecting it to increase interest further.
For a film that has experienced a production interruption, the trailer could become particularly important. It can demonstrate how much of the movie has been completed, establish the scale of the action drama and give audiences a clearer idea of the story and character dynamics without revealing too much.
The Real Challenge Is Now the Schedule
The biggest question surrounding Dada is no longer whether Balakrishna will return to the production. That has already happened.
The more important question is whether the remaining filming and post-production can be completed comfortably enough to deliver the film on December 24.
Reports suggest the makers are working with a tightly planned schedule, while other production work has progressed in parallel.
If the remaining work proceeds without another major interruption, the Christmas release remains a realistic target based on the current production updates. However, until filming and post-production are fully completed, the release should be viewed as the team’s announced plan rather than a guarantee.
For now, Balakrishna’s return is a significant development for Dada. After nearly two months away from the sets, the actor is once again actively involved in the production, giving the film a clear path toward its next major milestone.
With the Mysore schedule underway, the remaining shooting days, the pending song and final post-production work will determine whether Dada reaches theatres as planned on December 24, 2026.
