TCS HyperVault Plans 1GW AI Data Centre Campus in Hyderabad With Up to ₹70,000 Crore Investment
Hyderabad: Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) is stepping up its presence in India’s rapidly expanding artificial intelligence infrastructure market with plans for a large AI-focused data centre campus in Hyderabad. Its subsidiary, HyperVault AI Data Center, has secured 264 acres in the city for a facility that could eventually reach 1 gigawatt (GW) of capacity, with the overall investment expected to rise to as much as ₹70,000 crore.
The project represents a major bet on the infrastructure required to support the next phase of AI adoption. As companies increasingly move from experimenting with generative AI to deploying AI systems at scale, demand is growing for specialised facilities capable of handling energy-intensive computing, advanced GPUs, high-density servers and large volumes of data.
Hyderabad emerges as a major AI infrastructure destination
The planned campus is being developed in Bharat Future City, strengthening Hyderabad's position as one of India's key destinations for technology and digital infrastructure investments.
The scale of the proposed facility is significant. Once developed to its full planned capacity, the campus is expected to rank among India's largest AI infrastructure projects. Development will take place in phases, with the pace and scale of expansion linked to customer requirements and the evolution of AI computing technologies.
The location also gives the project access to Hyderabad's established technology ecosystem, enterprise customer base and digital infrastructure. The city's growing role in cloud computing, software services and data-centre development has helped create an environment suited to large technology infrastructure projects.
Designed for high-density AI workloads
Unlike conventional data centres that primarily support general-purpose computing, HyperVault is being designed specifically around the demanding requirements of AI workloads.
The infrastructure is expected to accommodate high-density GPU deployments used for applications such as AI model training, inference and advanced computing. These workloads can generate substantially greater power and cooling requirements than traditional enterprise computing.
HyperVault's broader infrastructure strategy includes technologies such as direct-to-chip liquid cooling, which can help manage the heat produced by densely packed computing equipment. The business is also focused on resilient power systems, high-speed connectivity and facilities capable of supporting large-scale AI deployments.
The campus is intended to serve a broad customer base, including hyperscalers, AI companies, enterprises and other organisations requiring significant computing capacity.
Investment could reach ₹70,000 crore
The proposed investment of up to ₹70,000 crore highlights the enormous capital requirements associated with building AI infrastructure at gigawatt scale.
The full investment is expected to be deployed progressively rather than all at once. Expansion will depend on factors including customer demand, technology requirements and the development schedule of the campus.
HyperVault was established as TCS's dedicated AI infrastructure business with backing from global investment firm TPG. In November 2025, TCS announced a strategic partnership with TPG involving commitments of up to ₹18,000 crore for HyperVault's broader expansion, including more than 1 GW of AI-ready data-centre capacity across India.
The Hyderabad project therefore forms part of a larger strategy to build a significant AI infrastructure platform rather than simply a standalone data centre.
Focus on energy efficiency and sustainability
AI data centres require substantial amounts of electricity and sophisticated cooling systems. As a result, sustainability is becoming an important consideration in the development of new computing infrastructure.
HyperVault says its facilities are being designed with energy efficiency in mind, while incorporating green-energy principles. The company's wider approach includes combining resilient power infrastructure with an increasing focus on renewable energy.
The Hyderabad campus is also expected to follow water-neutral principles, an important consideration for large-scale data-centre developments in regions where water availability and resource efficiency are increasingly important infrastructure concerns.
Potential boost for Hyderabad's technology economy
Beyond computing capacity, the project could have wider implications for Hyderabad's technology ecosystem.
Large AI infrastructure projects can create demand across construction, engineering, power, telecommunications, cooling, equipment maintenance and other specialised services. The project is also expected to generate thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities as the campus is developed and operational capacity expands.
The investment could further encourage AI-focused companies and technology providers to consider Hyderabad as a location for their operations, particularly those requiring access to substantial computing resources.
For Telangana, attracting a gigawatt-scale AI facility also fits with the state's broader efforts to strengthen its position in advanced technology and digital infrastructure.
TCS expands its AI ambitions
The HyperVault investment is closely connected to TCS's wider strategy of positioning itself as an AI-led technology services company.
TCS has increasingly focused on providing customers with capabilities covering multiple layers of the AI ecosystem. Data-centre infrastructure gives the company an opportunity to participate further upstream, providing the computing foundation on which AI platforms and applications can operate.
The company's stated strategy involves combining AI infrastructure with cloud, AI platforms, technology services and industry-specific solutions. HyperVault is intended to provide the infrastructure layer of that broader offering.
India's AI infrastructure requirements are expected to expand considerably as enterprises, technology companies and public-sector organisations adopt increasingly compute-intensive applications. TCS's Hyderabad investment positions HyperVault to participate in that growth while giving the city another major technology infrastructure project.
If developed to its full 1GW capacity, the campus could become a landmark addition to Hyderabad's technology landscape and one of the country's most significant purpose-built AI computing facilities.
