Naga Chaitanya’s Vrushakarma Release Date Update: Dussehra Plans Uncertain, December Release Possible

Naga Chaitanya’s upcoming film Vrushakarma is once again drawing attention, but this time the discussion is less about its story and more about when the much-awaited project will actually reach theatres. The film, directed by Karthik Dandu, has generated considerable curiosity with its distinctive visual world and mythological-thriller setting. However, the absence of a confirmed theatrical release date has left fans waiting for clarity.

The latest discussion surrounding the film suggests that its release plans could be facing complications. The makers had reportedly been considering a festival-season release, with Dussehra previously emerging as one possible window. The timing was said to depend partly on the progress of the film’s extensive visual-effects work. With no official announcement arriving so far, speculation has intensified that the movie may not make it to theatres during the Dussehra period.

Why the release date remains uncertain

Vrushakarma is expected to be a technically demanding production, with visual effects playing an important role in creating its larger-than-life setting. Earlier reports indicated that the team was working extensively on CGI and post-production following its shooting schedules. The Rajasthan schedule, for instance, was completed with the production team subsequently focusing on post-production and visual-effects work.

That technical workload could be one of the reasons the filmmakers are taking additional time before announcing a final date. For a project that depends heavily on visual spectacle, rushing the final stages could affect the quality of the finished product. At the same time, a prolonged silence can create its own challenges, particularly when audiences are expecting regular updates.

The film’s glimpse, released several months ago, had already established a dark and intriguing atmosphere. Its presentation hinted at a story combining adventure, mythology and supernatural elements, giving the project a different identity within Telugu cinema.

December could become the next option

With the Dussehra window now appearing increasingly uncertain, December has emerged as another possible release period. Reports earlier suggested that the makers could look at the latter part of 2026 for the theatrical launch. However, another major Akkineni release could complicate that plan.

Nagarjuna’s King 100 has reportedly locked December 24 as its release date. A close release between the father-and-son projects could create a difficult commercial situation, particularly during a holiday period when both films would be competing for theatres, audience attention and box-office revenue.

As a result, the release strategy for Vrushakarma may require careful planning. Rather than placing two films from the same family in direct competition, the makers could prefer a separate window that gives the Naga Chaitanya-starrer sufficient theatrical space.

A different film for Naga Chaitanya

Vrushakarma is being positioned as a significant departure from conventional Telugu commercial cinema. Karthik Dandu, who gained recognition with Virupaksha, is directing the project, while Naga Chaitanya leads the cast. Meenakshi Chaudhary is paired with Chaitanya, with Jayaram and Sparsh Shrivastava also part of the ensemble.

The film's premise and visual treatment have contributed to its anticipation. Chaitanya had previously described the project as a large-scale, VFX-heavy adventure with elements of treasure hunting and mythology. The actor has also taken on a different physical and stylistic appearance for the film, adding to expectations around his role.

The project also has strong backing behind the camera. It is being produced by BVSN Prasad and associated with Sukumar Writings and Sri Venkateswara Cine Chitra. Sukumar has contributed to the story, while Ajaneesh Loknath is handling the music.

Fans want an official announcement

The growing gap between major promotional updates has become a talking point among Chaitanya’s fans. While the earlier glimpse created interest, audiences have been waiting for concrete information about the film’s next promotional phase and, most importantly, its theatrical release.

For the filmmakers, the challenge is therefore twofold: complete the demanding technical work to the desired standard and maintain audience interest until the movie arrives. A clear release announcement could provide fresh momentum and allow the promotional campaign to begin in earnest.

For now, there is no officially confirmed theatrical release date for Vrushakarma. The Dussehra window remains uncertain, while a potential December release could require further scheduling decisions because of King 100. With expectations already high, the next major announcement from the team is likely to determine the film’s immediate release trajectory.

Until then, Vrushakarma remains one of Naga Chaitanya’s most closely watched upcoming projects, with fans waiting to see when its mythological thriller world will finally arrive on the big screen.
