Kavitha-Prashanth Reddy Clash Intensifies as Former Minister Rejects Allegations

The political dispute surrounding former Telangana minister Vemula Prashanth Reddy and Telangana Rakshana Sena president K. Kavitha has taken a fresh turn, with Prashanth Reddy publicly responding to a series of sharp allegations made against him at a public meeting in Nizamabad.

Kavitha, who has broken away from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and launched her own political platform, recently addressed the Panchajanya Sankalpa Sabha in Nizamabad. During the meeting, she accused Prashanth Reddy of playing a key role in creating differences between her and her father, former Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR).

She also alleged that Prashanth Reddy had acted against her interests within the BRS and questioned his loyalty to KCR during the party's difficult period.

Kavitha Targets Former BRS Minister

Kavitha's comments were particularly critical of Prashanth Reddy. She accused him of contributing to divisions within the KCR family and compared his alleged role to Shakuni, the strategist and antagonist from the Mahabharata.

She said that while she could potentially forgive some senior BRS leaders, she would not forgive Prashanth Reddy for what she alleged were his actions against her and her family.

Kavitha also questioned whether Prashanth Reddy had remained loyal to KCR and the BRS when the party faced political setbacks. She further alleged that he had established contact with Congress leaders after the BRS lost power in Telangana.

Her remarks came against the backdrop of a much wider political split between Kavitha and the BRS leadership. After leaving the BRS, she has been attempting to build an independent political identity through the Telangana Rakshana Sena.

Prashanth Reddy Rejects the Charges

Responding to Kavitha's accusations, Prashanth Reddy dismissed the allegations and defended his long-standing association with KCR and the BRS.

He pointed out that both he and his late father, Vemula Surender Reddy, were among the early members associated with the party. According to Prashanth Reddy, his association with KCR and the party goes back to its formative years.

He also questioned Kavitha's own political journey within the BRS, arguing that she entered the party later and eventually left it. Prashanth Reddy said he considered himself a long-time loyalist of KCR and the organisation.

Rather than engaging in an extended personal confrontation, he said he would leave Kavitha's remarks to her own understanding.

Counter-Allegation Over Congress Contacts

One of the most significant points in Prashanth Reddy's response concerned Kavitha's allegation that he had approached Congress leaders after the BRS lost power.

Prashanth Reddy described the claim as baseless and challenged Kavitha to clarify whether she herself had never held discussions with Congress leaders.

He also accused Kavitha of selectively targeting BRS leaders who remain close to KCR. The exchange has therefore moved beyond a personal disagreement and has become part of a larger debate over loyalty, leadership and the future direction of the regional political space in Telangana.

Nizamabad Becomes the Centre of the Latest Political Exchange

The latest confrontation carries additional significance because it took place in Nizamabad, an area with a strong political connection to Kavitha.

She represented Nizamabad in the Lok Sabha after winning the constituency in the 2014 general election and later represented the area in the Telangana Legislative Council. Her return to the region as the head of a new political organisation has therefore attracted considerable attention.

At the Nizamabad gathering, Kavitha also spoke about the difficult period she experienced after her political differences with the BRS leadership, including her imprisonment and the strain she said it caused within her family and political career.

She additionally levelled allegations against other former BRS leaders, including former MLA Jeevan Reddy and former MLA Bajireddy Goverdhan. The remarks have added another layer to the ongoing political friction between Kavitha and her former party colleagues.

Wider Battle for Telangana's Regional Political Space

The latest exchange comes at a time when Telangana's opposition politics is undergoing significant change. The BRS remains a major opposition force under KCR, while Kavitha is attempting to establish an alternative political platform after her separation from the party.

The dispute between Kavitha and Prashanth Reddy could consequently have implications beyond their individual political rivalry. Their competing versions of loyalty and events within the BRS are likely to remain part of the broader political conversation as Telangana's regional parties prepare for future electoral battles.

For now, both sides remain firmly opposed. Kavitha has reiterated her allegations against senior figures associated with her former party, while Prashanth Reddy has rejected the charges and defended his record of association with KCR and the BRS.

The increasingly public nature of the disagreement highlights the continuing internal tensions surrounding the BRS's political legacy and the emergence of new regional forces in Telangana.
