Vikarabad Railway Station Set for Major Upgrade as Kishan Reddy Reviews ₹27-Crore Modernisation Project

VIKARABAD, August 30, 2026: Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy on Sunday inspected the ongoing redevelopment works at Vikarabad railway station and reviewed the progress of the project being undertaken at an estimated cost of ₹27 crore.

The inspection focused on the pace and quality of the modernisation works being carried out under the Amrit Bharat Station initiative. Reddy was accompanied by Chevella MP Konda Vishweshwar Reddy during the visit, where they assessed the facilities planned for passengers and interacted with railway officials regarding the status of the construction.

According to details shared after the inspection, the redevelopment is intended to significantly improve the passenger experience at the station. The upgraded facility is expected to include modern passenger amenities such as an escalator, two lifts, a canteen and improved facilities for persons with disabilities. Other infrastructure improvements are also being incorporated into the redevelopment plan.

Reddy directed officials to ensure that the work progresses quickly while maintaining the required quality standards. The target is to complete the Vikarabad station works by the end of this year so that passengers can begin using the improved facilities without further delay.

Focus on Passenger Convenience

Vikarabad railway station is an important transport facility for people in the district and surrounding areas. The planned modernisation is therefore expected to have an impact beyond the station premises, particularly by improving the overall travel experience for regular railway users.

The project includes provisions aimed at making movement through the station easier for passengers. The addition of lifts and an escalator is expected to improve accessibility, while dedicated facilities for differently abled passengers are designed to make the station more inclusive.

The proposed passenger-oriented improvements come as Indian Railways continues to upgrade stations across Telangana. Reddy said the redevelopment of Vikarabad should be viewed as part of a wider effort to strengthen railway infrastructure in the state.

42 Stations Being Developed Across Telangana

During the visit, the Union Minister highlighted the broader railway modernisation programme underway across Telangana. He said several stations are being developed simultaneously as part of efforts to provide better infrastructure and contemporary passenger facilities.

The number of stations cited in reports varies between 42 and 43, but the central focus of the programme is the large-scale redevelopment of railway stations across the state. Vikarabad is among the stations receiving attention under this modernisation drive.

The Amrit Bharat Station programme seeks to transform railway stations through improvements in passenger amenities, accessibility, circulation areas and station infrastructure. Vikarabad's redevelopment is expected to give the district a more modern railway facility while supporting the area's growing connectivity requirements.

Railway Connectivity Seen as Key to Vikarabad's Growth

Reddy stressed the importance of railway connectivity for the development of Vikarabad and the surrounding region. Better railway infrastructure can make daily commuting easier while also supporting the movement of people and economic activity between the district and other parts of Telangana.

The minister also pointed to the wider expansion and upgrading of railway infrastructure in Telangana. According to remarks reported after the inspection, railway tracks across the state are being upgraded, while several major railway projects are progressing.

The visit also comes amid a broader push to improve road and rail infrastructure in the Chevella parliamentary constituency. Earlier, MP Konda Vishweshwar Reddy had indicated that several centrally funded infrastructure projects in the constituency were being reviewed, including railway station redevelopment works at Vikarabad and Tandur.

Modern Station Expected by Year-End

For residents and railway users in Vikarabad, the immediate priority will be the completion of the station redevelopment. With ₹27 crore being invested in the project, officials have been asked to maintain momentum and ensure that the work reaches completion within the targeted timeframe.

Once completed, the upgraded station is expected to provide passengers with improved accessibility, better basic amenities and a more contemporary station environment. The project also reflects the growing emphasis on upgrading railway infrastructure in district headquarters and other important towns.

The inspection by Kishan Reddy and Konda Vishweshwar Reddy indicates continued political and administrative attention to the project. The key challenge now will be completing the remaining works on schedule while ensuring that the facilities delivered to passengers meet the intended standards.

With the year-end deadline approaching, railway authorities will be under pressure to accelerate construction and finish the modernisation programme without compromising quality. If completed as planned, the redevelopment could mark a significant improvement in Vikarabad's railway infrastructure and provide a more convenient travel experience for thousands of passengers using the station.
