Toxic Box Office: Yash Film Makes a Powerful Start Despite Mixed Response
Rocking Star Yash’s much-awaited film Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups has opened to an impressive response at the Indian box office, delivering a strong first-day performance despite mixed reactions from audiences and critics. The film, which arrived in theatres on August 26, had already generated considerable anticipation through its extensive promotional campaign and strong advance ticket sales.
Directed by Geetu Mohandas, Toxic marks Yash’s return to the big screen after the enormous success of the KGF franchise. That long gap, combined with the actor’s pan-India popularity, helped create substantial curiosity around the film before its theatrical release.
Strong First-Day Numbers
According to box-office tracking data cited in reports, Toxic collected around ₹101 crore net in India on its opening day. The figure places the film among the notable Indian openers and highlights the scale of Yash’s popularity following KGF Chapter 2.
One of the most interesting aspects of the opening was the performance of the Hindi version. The dubbed Hindi release reportedly contributed around ₹55 crore net, making it the largest contributor among the different language versions on day one.
The Kannada version, despite earning less than the Hindi release in absolute terms, recorded very strong theatre occupancy. Reports indicate that Kannada shows achieved around 89 percent occupancy, underlining the strong home-market support for Yash.
The Telugu version also performed well across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, while the Tamil and Malayalam markets reportedly had a comparatively slower start.
Advance Bookings Created Huge Momentum
Much of the film’s opening-day strength was visible even before it reached theatres. Advance sales began on August 21, and the response quickly turned into a major talking point among trade observers.
By the morning of release, reports indicated that millions of tickets had already been sold. Estimates cited in reports placed the advance-booking gross at roughly ₹60 crore, showing the exceptional demand for the film before the first regular shows began.
Earlier tracking had also highlighted Toxic’s ability to compete with major recent releases in terms of pre-release ticket sales. The strong advance response provided the film with a significant advantage going into its opening day.
Hindi Market Becomes a Major Strength
Yash’s popularity in North India has grown substantially since the KGF films, and the opening figures for Toxic appear to reinforce that trend.
The Hindi version’s contribution is particularly notable because it demonstrates that Yash’s appeal is no longer restricted to the Kannada-speaking market. The actor has developed a substantial audience across several parts of India, allowing his films to compete with major Hindi-language releases.
This pan-India reach has become increasingly important for big-budget Indian films, and Toxic appears to be benefiting significantly from that nationwide audience.
Mixed Response Does Not Stop the Opening
The film has also attracted discussion because of its mixed critical and audience response. Some viewers have raised concerns about aspects of the film’s storytelling and presentation, while others have focused on its action, scale and Yash’s performance.
Despite those reactions, the initial box-office figures show that the pre-release excitement translated into strong theatre attendance.
The movie also received an A certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification. Reports noted that the film contains mature themes, strong romantic content and intense material, making it an adults-only theatrical release.
Can Toxic Maintain the Momentum?
The opening day is only the beginning of the film’s theatrical journey. The bigger test will be whether Toxic can maintain strong occupancy after the initial wave of Yash fans and advance bookings passes.
Weekend performance will be particularly important. A strong hold on the second and third days would indicate that the film is attracting audiences beyond its core fan base. On the other hand, a significant fall after the opening could suggest that mixed word-of-mouth is affecting its long-term box-office prospects.
For now, however, Toxic has made a powerful start. With approximately ₹101 crore net from India on day one, a major contribution from the Hindi market and strong occupancy in Karnataka, Yash’s latest film has demonstrated considerable commercial strength.
The coming days will determine whether that spectacular opening develops into a sustained box-office success and how far Toxic ultimately climbs among the biggest Indian releases of the year.
