Telangana Extends Deadline for New Pension Applications

The Telangana government has announced an extension of the application deadline for newly sanctioned social security pensions, providing additional time for eligible people who were unable to submit their applications within the earlier schedule.

The application process for new pensions was originally scheduled to close on August 31. However, the government decided to extend the deadline after receiving requests from potential beneficiaries who were concerned about missing the opportunity. The decision is expected to give more eligible applicants a chance to apply for assistance under the state’s Cheyutha pension programme.

The government’s move comes at a time when thousands of people across Telangana are seeking inclusion in the state’s social security pension system. According to the latest information, the state has set a target of providing new social security pensions to around 2.50 lakh beneficiaries. The application response, however, has already exceeded that target, with approximately 4.50 lakh applications received during the process.

Deadline Extended to Give More Applicants an Opportunity

Minister Seethakka has announced the extension following concerns that some eligible applicants could be left out because of the earlier closing date. The government has therefore decided to provide additional time for applications.

The extension is particularly significant for people who may have faced difficulties in completing the application process or gathering the necessary information within the original deadline. Eligible applicants who have not yet applied are being encouraged to make use of the additional opportunity rather than wait until the process closes.

The pension initiative is aimed at expanding social security support to deserving sections of society. The government has been accepting applications from eligible beneficiaries since August 9.

Thousands of Applications Already Received

The scale of the response indicates strong demand for the new pensions. Around 4.50 lakh applications have reportedly been submitted so far, considerably higher than the government’s initial target of 2.50 lakh new pensions.

Widows account for the largest share of applications. The available figures show that approximately 2,64,815 widows have applied. Applications have also been received from single women, persons with disabilities, Geetha workers and handloom workers.

The reported category-wise figures include around 26,057 applications from single women and 1,07,171 applications from persons with disabilities. Geetha workers have submitted approximately 26,343 applications, while around 10,468 applications have come from handloom workers.

The numbers indicate that the final selection process could require detailed verification because the number of applications is substantially larger than the number of pensions targeted by the government.

Verification Process to Begin

The next important stage will be the verification of applications. Officials are scheduled to begin field-level verification from September 1.

During this process, authorities will examine the applications and determine whether applicants meet the eligibility requirements for receiving the pension. The verification exercise will play an important role in preparing the final list of beneficiaries.

Once the scrutiny is completed, eligible applicants will be selected for sanction. The government is expected to prepare the beneficiary list based on the verification results before moving ahead with the distribution of the new pensions.

Direct Transfer Planned for Beneficiaries

The government has also decided that the pension amounts will be transferred directly into the bank accounts of approved beneficiaries. This is intended to ensure that the financial assistance reaches the selected recipients through the banking system.

The direct-transfer mechanism will become relevant once the verification and beneficiary-selection process is completed.
