PM Modi to Engage with Youth Through Khelo India Dialogue on National Sports Day

PM Modi to Engage with Youth Through Khelo India Dialogue on National Sports Day

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to interact virtually with young people on August 27 as part of the Khelo India Dialogue, an event being organised to mark National Sports Day 2026. The programme will bring together discussions on sports, fitness, youth leadership and the broader role of young citizens in nation-building.

The interaction is scheduled for 11 a.m. and is being organised under the Mera Yuva Bharat initiative. The programme is expected to have participation from colleges across the country, with two institutions in every district being prepared to host the event. The format is intended to create a wider platform through which young people can engage with themes connected to sports and their responsibilities as future leaders.

Sports and Youth Leadership at the Centre

One of the major themes of the programme will be the connection between sporting participation and leadership among young Indians. The dialogue is expected to focus on how sports can contribute not only to physical fitness but also to qualities such as discipline, teamwork, confidence and responsibility.

Youth leadership and volunteering are also expected to feature prominently in the Prime Minister's interaction. The programme will address the importance of developing skills for the future and encouraging young people to take an active role in civic life.

The discussion is also expected to highlight the aspirations of India's younger generation and their potential role in shaping the country's sporting priorities. The interaction will provide an opportunity to connect these aspirations with the wider vision for India's national sports policy.

Focus on Sports Infrastructure and Training

Another important part of the Khelo India Dialogue will be a discussion on the ecosystem required to help young athletes develop their potential. Sports infrastructure, coaching and sports science are among the subjects included in the programme.

The emphasis on these areas reflects the increasing importance of professional training and scientific support in competitive sports. Identifying promising athletes at an early stage and providing them with suitable coaching and facilities can play an important role in building a stronger sporting base.

The programme is also expected to discuss talent identification and training in the context of India's Olympic ambitions. Young athletes and aspiring sports professionals will therefore have an opportunity to hear perspectives on the preparation required to compete at the highest level.

'Nasha Mukt Yuva' to Get Special Attention

The dialogue will also feature a dedicated interaction on the Nasha Mukt Yuva campaign. The initiative seeks to encourage young people to stay away from substance abuse, with sports being positioned as one of the constructive avenues for building healthier lifestyles.

The programme is expected to use conversations around fitness and sporting participation to reinforce the message of a drug-free youth population. By connecting young people with sports and positive activities, the campaign aims to encourage healthier choices and greater participation in community life.

Indian Athletes to Share Their Experiences

The Khelo India Dialogue will not be limited to the Prime Minister's interaction. Prominent Indian sportspersons and medal winners are also expected to participate and share their experiences with young audiences.

Their stories can offer students and aspiring athletes a practical perspective on sporting careers, perseverance and the challenges involved in reaching competitive levels. Their participation is also expected to strengthen the connection between young people and India's sporting community.

For many students, direct exposure to athletes who have represented the country can provide motivation while highlighting the importance of sustained training and commitment.

A Broader Message Beyond Sports

Although the event is being organised around National Sports Day, its agenda extends beyond athletic achievement. The planned discussions bring together fitness, leadership, volunteering, citizenship, future skills and national development.

The programme therefore places young people at the centre of a broader conversation about India's future. Sports are being presented not simply as a competitive field but also as a means of encouraging healthy lifestyles, leadership qualities and social participation.

With colleges across districts preparing to participate, the August 27 interaction is expected to create a nationwide platform for young Indians to engage with these issues. The Khelo India Dialogue will consequently combine the themes of sporting development and youth empowerment as part of the National Sports Day 2026 programme.
