Mahindra Group Appoints Shveta Arya as Chief Strategy Officer, Effective September 15

Mumbai: Mahindra Group has announced a significant leadership appointment as it brings Shveta Arya into the organisation as its new Group Chief Strategy Officer. Arya will take charge on September 15, 2026, and will also become part of the senior management of Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd.

The appointment comes as the diversified group continues to focus on growth across its wide range of businesses. In her new position, Arya will head the Group Strategy Office and work with businesses across the Mahindra portfolio to identify new opportunities, strengthen value creation and support the group’s long-term strategic direction.

Arya to Join Mahindra’s Group Executive Board

As part of her new responsibilities, Arya will join the Mahindra Group Executive Board. She will report directly to Anish Shah, Group CEO and Managing Director of Mahindra Group.

Her role is expected to involve working across different businesses within the conglomerate rather than focusing on a single operating segment. This gives the new strategy chief a broad mandate covering opportunities for expansion, business value enhancement and longer-term competitive positioning.

Welcoming the appointment, Shah highlighted Arya’s experience in business leadership, strategy and consulting. He said her background in managing growth and navigating organisational change would be useful as Mahindra works with its portfolio companies to build sustainable long-term value.

More Than Two Decades of Experience

Arya brings more than 23 years of professional experience to Mahindra Group. Her career has covered several industries, including automotive, travel, financial services and telecommunications.

Before moving to Mahindra, she served as Managing Director of Cummins India. During her tenure, her responsibilities included business growth, customer success, talent development and workplace culture.

Her experience at Cummins is particularly relevant to her new role because of the automotive and industrial exposure it provided. The move also gives Mahindra access to a leader who has worked across both operational management and strategic functions.

Earlier in her career, Arya was associated with Thomas Cook India, where she led strategy and mergers and acquisitions. She also held various positions at management consulting firm Kearney and technology company Infosys.

Academic Background

Arya has an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad. She also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering in Information Technology from Delhi University.

Her professional background combines technology, consulting, corporate strategy and business leadership. That combination could be relevant to Mahindra as the group manages businesses operating in different sectors and evaluates opportunities for future growth.

In addition to her corporate responsibilities, Arya has been associated with initiatives supporting diversity, inclusion and women's empowerment. During her time at Cummins, she was involved in a major programme aimed at creating broader opportunities and impact for girls and women in India.

A Broad Strategic Mandate

Mahindra Group operates across a diversified portfolio, making group-level strategy an important function in deciding where to allocate capital, which opportunities to pursue and how individual businesses can create greater value.

Arya’s appointment therefore places her at the centre of the group’s broader strategic planning. Her responsibilities will include identifying growth possibilities across the portfolio and helping businesses strengthen their long-term positioning.

The company has not indicated that the appointment is tied to any single business initiative. Instead, the role covers the wider group and is designed to support strategic priorities across its businesses.

For Mahindra, Arya’s experience across multiple industries and her combination of consulting and corporate leadership could provide an additional perspective as the group evaluates its next phase of expansion.

Leadership Transition Takes Effect in September

Arya will formally assume the Group Chief Strategy Officer position on September 15, 2026. Until then, the existing leadership structure will remain in place.

Once she takes charge, she will work closely with Anish Shah and the wider leadership team while participating in the Group Executive Board. Her appointment adds another senior leader with extensive experience in strategy, operations and organisational transformation to Mahindra’s top management.

The move marks an important addition to Mahindra Group’s leadership team as it continues to manage a diverse collection of businesses and pursue opportunities for long-term growth. Arya’s experience across automotive, financial services, travel, telecom and consulting is expected to complement the group’s multi-sector business model.
