Kalyani Priyadarshan Makes History with ₹200 Crore at Box Office for Lokah Chapter 1
Actor Kalyani Priyadarshan, known for her discerning choices since her debut in the 2017 Telugu film Hello, has achieved a remarkable milestone with the release of Lokah Chapter 1 – Chandra. Playing India’s first female superhero, Kalyani not only captivated audiences but also became the first female actor in Malayalam cinema to cross the ₹200 crore mark at the box office, firmly placing her among the industry's top stars.
Lokah: Chapter 1 – Chandra has soared to worldwide box office collections of ₹202 crore within just 13 days of its release on August 28. This blockbuster success is significant given that female-led films remain relatively rare in Malayalam cinema. Joining the ranks of recent Malayalam hits like Mohanlal’s L2 Empuraan (₹265.5 crore) and Thudarum (₹234.5 crore), as well as Manjummel Boys (₹240.5 crore) from 2024, Lokah’s achievement is a testament to its compelling story and powerful performances.
Dulquer Salmaan, who produced Lokah under Warfarer Films, recently praised writer-actor Santhy Balachandran for crafting a lead character that breaks away from the traditional male-centric narrative. Dulquer acknowledged that representing a female superhero authentically was a key factor in the film's success. The production house confirmed the ₹202 crore milestone via X (formerly Twitter).
Kalyani expressed heartfelt gratitude to the audience for making this landmark possible, sharing behind-the-scenes moments and emphasizing that content remains king in the industry. She credited director Dominic Arun for providing the vision that inspired the entire cast and crew to deliver their best performances. Kalyani highlighted that this victory feels especially meaningful because of the shared effort with her talented team.
Alongside Kalyani, Lokah stars Naslen, Sandy, Arun Kurian, Chandu Salimkumar, Nishanth Sagar, and others. The film also features special cameos by Dulquer, Tovino Thomas, Soubin, Anna Ben, with legendary actor Mammootty lending his voice to an important character.
Lokah Chapter 1’s phenomenal success not only marks a groundbreaking achievement for Kalyani Priyadarshan but also underscores a growing acceptance and enthusiasm for female-led stories in Malayalam cinema, promising an exciting future for diverse storytelling in the industry.
This milestone showcases the power of visionary cinema and content-driven success in today’s entertainment landscape.
