Purple Style Labs Shares Make Weak Stock Market Debut, List at 7% Discount on NSE
Purple Style Labs, the company behind luxury fashion platform Pernia’s Pop-Up Shop, made a subdued debut on the Indian stock exchanges on September 7, with its shares opening below the issue price. The weak listing came despite the company’s public issue managing to secure subscription slightly above the number of shares on offer.
On the National Stock Exchange (NSE), Purple Style Labs shares opened at ₹535 apiece, representing a decline of 6.96% from the IPO price of ₹575. On the BSE, the stock began trading at ₹539, translating into a discount of 6.26% to the issue price.
The opening performance was notably weaker than the signals coming from the unofficial grey market ahead of listing. Grey market indications on the morning of September 7 had pointed to a smaller discount of around 2%, but the actual market debut turned out to be more subdued.
IPO received moderate investor response
Purple Style Labs had launched a ₹680-crore initial public offering with a price band of ₹546 to ₹575 per share. The issue consisted entirely of a fresh issue of approximately 1.18 crore equity shares, meaning there was no offer-for-sale component in the offering.
The IPO was subscribed 1.29 times overall during its three-day bidding period. Investors submitted bids for around 88.66 lakh shares against approximately 68.49 lakh shares available in the offer.
Retail investors showed comparatively stronger participation, with their portion subscribed 1.58 times. Qualified institutional buyers, or QIBs, subscribed 1.43 times their allotted portion. However, demand from non-institutional investors remained below the full subscription level, with the NII segment receiving bids for about 84% of the shares reserved for it.
The subscription numbers indicated that investor interest was present but not strong enough to create significant listing-day momentum.
Anchor investors had committed ₹306 crore
Before the IPO opened to the broader investor base, Purple Style Labs raised ₹306 crore from anchor investors on August 28. The company allotted 53.21 lakh shares at ₹575 each to 10 anchor investors.
The anchor book included several prominent institutional names, including Morgan Stanley Asia, BofA Securities Europe, ICICI Prudential Mutual Fund, Aditya Birla Sun Life Insurance Company, Jupiter India Fund, Integrated Core Strategies, ITI Mutual Fund and Singularity Equity Fund I.
Despite this institutional participation ahead of the issue, the stock was unable to sustain the IPO price when regular trading began.
Focus on luxury fashion retail expansion
Purple Style Labs operates Pernia’s Pop-Up Shop, an omnichannel luxury fashion platform that sells designer products across categories such as women's wear, men's wear, jewellery and accessories. Its business is particularly focused on wedding and occasion-led luxury fashion.
The company has built both physical and digital channels, including Experience Centers and online operations, allowing customers to access products from a network of designer brands.
A significant portion of the IPO proceeds is intended for its subsidiary, PSL Retail. According to the company's stated plans, the funds will support lease liabilities associated with Experience Centers and back-end offices in India, along with sales and marketing expenditure and broader corporate requirements.
Financial performance remains a key consideration
While Purple Style Labs recorded growth in operating revenue during FY26, profitability remained a major concern for investors. Revenue from operations increased to around ₹557.8 crore in FY26 from approximately ₹489.9 crore in FY25.
However, the company's net loss widened considerably. Purple Style Labs reported a loss of about ₹285.3 crore in FY26, compared with a net loss of roughly ₹188.3 crore in the previous financial year.
The combination of revenue growth and continuing losses is therefore likely to remain an important factor as investors assess the company's valuation following its stock market debut.
Market capitalisation crosses ₹4,300 crore
Following the listing, Purple Style Labs' market capitalisation was around ₹4,315 crore, based on the opening market price. This was below the valuation implied by the upper end of the IPO price band, which had placed the company's prospective market capitalisation at around ₹4,603.5 crore.
The weak opening puts the focus on how the stock performs during its first few trading sessions. Investors will likely watch whether the company can improve its financial performance, expand its luxury retail footprint and move towards profitability.
For IPO investors, however, the September 7 debut delivered an immediate mark-to-market loss for those who received shares at the ₹575 issue price. The listing also highlights the difference between unofficial grey-market expectations and actual trading conditions once a newly listed stock enters the broader market.
With Purple Style Labs now publicly traded, the company's ability to convert its luxury fashion positioning into sustainable growth and improved earnings will become increasingly important for its long-term market valuation.
